BMW F10 Headlight Guide: How to Identify Your Headlight Type

BMW F10 5 Series Headlight Guide: How to Identify Your Headlights

Not sure which headlights your F10 has? This guide will help you quickly identify your headlight type and understand your repair options.

How to Identify Your Headlight Type

The key to identifying your F10 headlights is looking at the inner eye section (the smaller inner projector/reflector next to the main beam):

Halogen Headlights

How to spot them: The inner eye has a reflector-style high beam section - no projector lens, just a traditional reflector bowl.

  • Option code: S520A
  • Warm yellow light output
  • LED angel eyes (less bright than xenon/LED variants)

Note: We don't offer resealing for halogen units - brand new headlights are available from just €299, making replacement more cost-effective.

Non-Adaptive Xenon (Bi-Xenon)

How to spot them: The inner eye has a black plastic insert - a solid black cover with no transparency.

  • Option code: S522A
  • D1S xenon main beam
  • LED angel eye DRL lights
  • No cornering function

Adaptive Xenon (AHL)

How to spot them: The inner eye has a clear, transparent lens with a lined/hatched pattern - this is the cornering light that swivels with the steering.

  • Option code: S524A
  • D1S xenon main beam
  • LED angel eye DRL lights
  • Cornering lights that follow steering input

LED Headlights (LCI Only)

How to spot them: Distinctive hexagonal LED modules visible in the headlight - unmistakable design exclusive to LCI models.

  • Option code: S552A
  • Full LED technology
  • Only available on 2013-2017 LCI models

LCI vs Pre-LCI

Pre-LCI (2010-2013): LED indicators LCI (2013-2017): Standard bulb indicators, but distinctive eyebrow DRL along with the angel eyes

Common Problems We Fix

Condensation/Water Ingress - Moisture inside the lens from failed seals

Failed DRL Modules - Angel eyes not working or flickering

TMS Module Failure - Complete headlight failure (LED models)

Our Headlight Rebuild Service

We use brand new housings and lenses for every rebuild - not resealed old units. This ensures a lasting, watertight seal.

Your existing internal components (projectors, ballasts, reflectors) are transferred to the new housing after inspection.
